Here you can find the photo electrical sensors for shaft encoders, both with photodiodes or phototransistors. Main differences are between the optodevices for absolute encoders and the optodevices for incremental encoders. There's another page dedicated to special sensor and hybrid dices. The main characteristics of the our SMD photo sensors are the followings:

they work very well in both photovoltaic and photoconductive mode
face the stronger thermal canvasses: high range work temperature
adopt an high mechanical precision due to the applications needs
high performances and very good resistance in mechanical accelerations and high vibrations environments
very good waterproofing and tolerances to humidity
special electrical contacts with low resistance for high speed and high frequencies
high tenacity of the strips and pads for a superior and long time welding without problems
easy and suggested to mount in SMT reflow soldering
